This Flower Series presents the individual flower as an icon, in large format and
somewhat abstracted. Acrylic paint is put on the canvases in many thin, watery
layers. This technique allows drips and runs which evoke images of erosion, fragility
and impermanence. The backgrounds have a feeling of depth, while drips across the
surfaces of the flowers flatten them out. The spatial tension this causes makes the
eye wander over the surface, searching for the flower's true nature.
